About Beverly Heights, Edmonton
Beverly Heights is a historic Edmonton neighborhood with roots dating back to the 1882 Edmonton Settlement map. Originally part of the Village of Beverly, the area developed rapidly after the discovery of coal in 1910, fueling its early economy. Incorporated as a town in 1914, Beverly thrived alongside the coal industry until the last mine closed in 1952. The opening of the Beverly Bridge in 1953 spurred residential growth, connecting the community to the emerging petrochemical industries to the east. In 1961, Beverly was amalgamated into Edmonton, but its unique street layout still reflects its independent past, distinguishing it from the neighboring Highlands community.
Today, Beverly Heights offers a blend of historic charm and modern living, with single-detached homes from the pre-amalgamation era complemented by low-rise apartments and ongoing infill development. The neighborhood enjoys easy access to the North Saskatchewan River Valley, with multiple entry points to scenic trails and green spaces. Floden Park serves as the hub of community activity, housing the Beverly Heights Community League and recreational facilities. With its rich heritage, strong community spirit, and proximity to nature, Beverly Heights remains a desirable neighborhood in northeast Edmonton.
