About Boyle Street, Edmonton
Boyle Street, one of Edmonton’s oldest neighbourhoods, dates back to 1892 when it was part of the town’s early commercial district. As the city expanded eastward from Fort Edmonton, Boyle Street’s grid pattern reflects the alignment of river lots. Located on the eastern edge of Edmonton’s central business district, it remains a vibrant area with young professionals and single adults.
Over the past century, Boyle Street has undergone significant redevelopment, with many residential properties being transformed. Commercial spaces line the western edge, while industrial use dominates the north along the CNR right-of-way. The Quarters Area Redevelopment Plan, approved in 2009, envisions further growth for this historic neighbourhood. Boyle Street is likely named after John R. Boyle, an early Edmonton resident and lawyer.
