About Canossa, Edmonton
Canossa was originally used for agriculture before residential development began in the early 1990s. Most construction occurred between 2000 and 2006, though some undeveloped land remains, particularly north of 175th Avenue.
Bordered by Anthony Henday Drive to the north, 121st Street to the east, 167th Avenue to the south, and 112th Street to the west, Canossa is primarily a single-detached residential neighbourhood. Its design features loops and cul-de-sacs, creating a quiet and safe environment that aligns with surrounding communities. The area’s development plan, initially drafted in 1984, was later updated to improve stormwater management, adjust park site requirements, and increase single-detached housing.
Following the Castle Downs tradition, Canossa is named after Canossa Castle in Northern Italy. Built around 940 AD, the castle was destroyed in 1255 and, despite multiple restorations, remains in ruins today.
