About Carlisle, Edmonton
Carlisle is a neighbourhood within the Castle Downs Outline Plan area, located between 145th Avenue to the north, 137th Avenue to the south, 124th Street to the east, and 113A Street to the west. The area was annexed by the City of Edmonton in 1971.
Development began in the 1970s and continued through the 1980s, with some additional construction into the 2000s. Multi-unit housing is a key feature, primarily along collector roads. Recreational spaces and parkland are centrally located near the community league and elementary school, providing green space and amenities for residents.
Carlisle follows the Castle Downs tradition of naming neighbourhoods after famous castles. Carlisle Castle, located near England’s border with Scotland, was built in 1093 by King William II. Extensively renovated over the centuries, it remains one of England’s best-preserved castles today.
