About Delwood, Edmonton
Delwood is a well-established Edmonton neighborhood known for its stable, family-friendly atmosphere and classic 1960s suburban design. Featuring a mix of single and semi-detached homes, row housing, and low-rise apartments, the community is built around small pocket parks and a central park-school site along Delwood Road. Schools are conveniently located at the heart of the neighborhood, while commercial spaces are positioned at its corners. With its mature trees, quiet streets, and proximity to the Belvedere LRT station and Fort Road’s amenities, Delwood offers both tranquility and accessibility.
Originally settled in the early 1900s, Delwood saw most of its development in the 1960s and is believed to be named after Edward Delegare “Del” Grierson, a notable Edmonton landowner and politician. It replaced the former subdivision names of Industrial Centre, Queen’s Park, and East Delton. The neighborhood also features Josef Chelen Park, named after a Polish-born market gardener, adding to Delwood’s rich history and strong sense of community.
