About Dovercourt, Edmonton
Dovercourt is a charming, well-planned Edmonton neighborhood known for its curvilinear streets, limited access points, and lush landscaping—an innovative design concept introduced in the 1950s by the city’s first town planner, Noel Dant. Unlike traditional grid layouts, Dovercourt’s streets and walkways were carefully designed to enhance community connectivity, centering around the neighborhood’s school and community league sites. Most of the homes, primarily single-detached houses, were built between the late 1940s and 1960, giving the area a classic mid-century suburban feel. Residents enjoy convenient access to shopping and services along 118th Avenue and St. Albert Trail, as well as nearby Westmount Shopping Centre.
Originally annexed to Edmonton in 1913 but left undeveloped for decades, Dovercourt finally took shape in the post-WWII boom. The neighborhood’s name dates back as early as 1910 and is believed to reference Dovercourt Village in Essex, England. Today, Dovercourt remains a peaceful, family-friendly community offering a blend of history, thoughtful urban planning, and easy access to key commercial hubs.
