About Eastwood, Edmonton
Eastwood is one of Edmonton’s oldest neighborhoods, with roots dating back to 1906. By 1910, a streetcar line ran along 118 Avenue, connecting Edmonton to the village of North Edmonton and sparking early development. Homes and businesses quickly emerged along the streetcar route and major roads, but as Edmonton’s pre-war land boom slowed, much of Eastwood remained undeveloped for years. The neighborhood saw its most significant growth by the 1950s, and since then, redevelopment has continued as older structures are replaced.
Its name likely reflects its historical position on Edmonton’s eastern edge before North Edmonton’s amalgamation in 1912. With its central location and strong transit connections, Eastwood remains a vibrant part of the city, blending historic charm with ongoing urban renewal.
