About Overlanders, Edmonton
Overlanders is one of three neighbourhoods within the Hermitage plan area, rich in history and natural beauty. Originally an agricultural region, the area was named after a group of miners who traveled from Fort Garry to the Cariboo gold fields, some of whom settled in Edmonton in 1862. The neighbourhood’s development began in the late 1970s after concerns over industrial proximity were resolved. By the end of the decade, most single-detached homes and a third of the row houses were completed, with additional row housing and apartment buildings constructed throughout the 1980s. Overlanders is well-connected, featuring collector roads and a network of bicycle and pedestrian pathways.
A key highlight of the community is its central multi-purpose educational and recreational site, along with direct access to the North Saskatchewan River Valley on its northern edge. The eastern boundary of Overlanders is marked by Victoria Trail, named after the historic route that connected Edmonton to the Methodist mission at Victoria. With its blend of history, green spaces, and well-planned residential areas, Overlanders offers a unique balance of urban convenience and natural surroundings.
