About Hodgson, Edmonton
Hodgson is part of the Terwillegar Heights Servicing Concept Design Brief and began developing in the early 2000s. Before that, the land was mainly used for agriculture, with a few residential properties, woodlots, and a natural wetland. Whitemud Creek Ravine borders the neighbourhood to the east, giving residents easy access to one of Edmonton’s key natural areas.
Most of Hodgson’s residential growth happened in the early 2000s, with a mix of low- and medium-density housing. Rabbit Hill Road and 23rd Avenue provide direct access into the neighbourhood. A large central park, along with smaller parks and natural spaces, connects through a pedestrian pathway system. A commercial and employment hub sits in the southwest corner, while nearby Riverbend and Terwillegar Towne offer additional shopping and services.
The neighbourhood gets its name from John Hodgson (1888–1969), who served as Edmonton’s city comptroller and financial commissioner for nearly 40 years. Originally from England, Hodgson moved to Edmonton in 1913, bringing his experience as a chartered accountant. Over the years, he played a crucial role in managing the city’s finances as chief audit clerk, city comptroller, and financial commissioner.
