About Virginia Park, Edmonton
The origin of Virginia Park’s name remains uncertain, but the neighbourhood was home to the Virginia Park Greenhouse, a significant landmark established in 1912. This greenhouse operated in the heart of the community for nearly 70 years, serving as an important part of the local economy and horticultural industry. In 1981, it was relocated to Ellerslie Road and 111th Street, where it continued operations. While the greenhouse is no longer in Virginia Park, its legacy remains tied to the neighbourhood’s history and development.
Virginia Park is also home to Concordia University of Edmonton, a well-respected post-secondary institution that has been a part of the community for decades. The university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs and contributes to the area’s academic and cultural vibrancy. With its prime location near the North Saskatchewan River Valley and Borden Park, students and residents alike enjoy easy access to green spaces, recreational opportunities, and a scenic environment.
