About Delton, Edmonton
Delton, one of Edmonton’s historic neighborhoods, has been part of the city since 1910, a time of rapid expansion driven by land speculation. Originally over a mile from the nearest developed area, Delton was subdivided in a classic pre-WWI grid pattern, though most of its development didn’t take place until after WWII. Today, it offers a mix of single-detached homes and quiet residential streets, despite being bordered by major roadways like Yellowhead Trail and 97th Street. The neighborhood’s commercial activity is centered along 97th Street, while Delton Park provides green space for residents.
Named after Edward Delegare “Del” Grierson, a prominent early Edmontonian and former city council member, Delton carries a rich history. Grierson, who arrived in the 1890s while working on the Canadian Pacific Railway, played a key role in shaping the city’s real estate landscape. His legacy lives on in Delton and the nearby Grierson Estates, making this neighborhood a unique blend of history, convenience, and community charm.
