About Bisset, Edmonton
Bisset is one of 26 neighborhoods in Mill Woods, a community established in the 1970s and named for Mill Creek and the area’s natural parkland. Originally planned for high-density development, the neighborhood saw zoning adjustments that led to a mix of housing types, with most homes built in the 1980s. Bisset is part of the Ridgewood Community League, founded in 1982, and offers a well-balanced residential setting with both single-detached homes and multi-family dwellings.
Located between 23 Avenue and 34 Avenue, and 34 Street and Mill Woods Road East, Bisset is designed for efficient traffic flow while maintaining a quiet residential atmosphere. A collector road, 26 Avenue, runs through the neighborhood, providing access to transit. Curvilinear streets, cul-de-sacs, and strategically placed pathways enhance pedestrian and bicycle travel, while a pipeline right-of-way adds additional open space.
Bisset was named in honor of Judge Athelstan Bisset, Q.C., a distinguished World War I veteran and respected community leader. After returning from service, he practiced law in Strathcona, served as an alderman for 15 years, and was later appointed as a Family Court judge in 1952. His legacy lives on in this welcoming and well-connected neighborhood.
