About Blue Quill Estates, Edmonton

Blue Quill Estates, the westernmost part of the Kaskitayo Outline Plan Area, was annexed by Edmonton in 1971, with residential development beginning in the early 1970s. The neighborhood offers a mix of housing types, with apartments and row houses along major access roads and single-detached homes nestled near Whitemud Creek Ravine and within the community’s interior.

A centrally located multi-purpose recreational site serves as the heart of the neighborhood, while Whitemud Creek Ravine to the west and Blackmud Creek Ravine to the south provide year-round outdoor recreation. Well-placed pathways encourage pedestrian and bicycle travel within the community and natural areas.

As part of Kaskitayo’s tradition of honoring Indigenous leaders, Blue Quill Estates is named after Cree Chief Blue Quill of the Saddle Lake Indian Reserve, established in 1889. In the late 19th century, he was a prominent trader in Edmonton, leaving a lasting legacy.
