About Chambery, Edmonton
Chambery is a neighbourhood in the northeast section of the Castle Downs Extension plan area. It is located south of Anthony Henday Drive, east of 112th Street, south of 173rd Avenue, and west of the Elsinore neighbourhood near 106th Street. Before development, the area was primarily used for agriculture.
While some residential construction began in the late 1980s and early 1990s, most development started in the early 2000s and continues today. The neighbourhood consists mainly of single-detached homes, with additional medium-density housing planned. Chambery’s design incorporates several residential sub-units, defined by a collector road system.
Once fully developed, Chambery will feature a central school site and two smaller pocket parks, creating an integrated system of open spaces. St. Charles Catholic Church, a significant landmark in the community, is located along 176th Avenue on the neighbourhood’s western edge.
Chambery follows the Castle Downs tradition of naming neighbourhoods after historic castles. The original Chambery Castle, built in 1232, served as the capital of the Duchy of Savoy until the 16th century. Although Savoy became part of France in 1860, the castle remains standing today.
