Ermineskin, like many nearby neighbourhoods, features a curvilinear street design and was primarily developed in the 1970s and 1980s. It is a mixed-use area with residential, commercial, and open spaces. Housing includes single and semi-detached homes, row housing, and both low- and high-rise apartments. While most development occurred in the 1970s, infill projects have continued into the 2000s.
The planned Century Park redevelopment, located on the former Heritage Mall site, will combine residential, commercial, and office spaces around a central park, integrated with the LRT station—Edmonton’s first purpose-built Transit-Oriented Development.
The neighbourhood is named after Cree Chief Ermineskin of Hobbema.
