About Inglewood, Edmonton
Inglewood is a well-established residential neighborhood in northwest Edmonton, known for its historic charm, mature trees, and quick access to downtown. Development began after World War II, but its history dates back to 1882 when the land was acquired by J. Norris Sr. and R. Logan. It was annexed to Edmonton in 1904 and 1920, with “Inglewood” first appearing on a 1905 subdivision plan. The area also served as a campsite for First Nations communities conducting business in the city. Growth surged after the 1913 extension of the electric streetcar line. Initially a low-density neighborhood, Inglewood saw increased apartment development from the 1950s onward due to its prime location. Today, it features mostly medium- to high-density housing, including notable developments like the Bel Air apartments near Groat Road.
