About Michaels Park, Edmonton
Michaels Park is one of 27 neighbourhoods in Mill Woods. The Government of Alberta created the Mill Woods land bank in 1970 to address rising land costs, and the City of Edmonton began development in 1971. Residential construction in Michaels Park started in 1973 and was mostly complete by the late 1970s.
Bounded by arterial and collector roads, the neighbourhood features a curvilinear street layout with pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. A central open space and recreational area was partially repurposed for housing in 2008. High-density housing is located along collector roads, and the Mill Woods Golf Course lies to the east.
Michaels Park, part of the Millbourne Community, is served by Millbourne Shopping Centre and nearby Mill Woods Town Centre. The neighbourhood is named after John Michaels, a community leader known for his contributions to aviation and northern development.
