About Sifton Park, Edmonton
Sifton Park is one of seven residential neighbourhoods in the Clareview district, bordered by major roadways on three sides and the Kennedale Ravine to the south. Originally subdivided in 1912 during Edmonton’s early land boom, the area remained largely undeveloped for many years. In 1961, it was annexed by the City of Edmonton, but concerns over its proximity to petrochemical and industrial operations delayed residential development. By 1972, these issues were resolved, and Edmonton City Council approved the first phase of the Clareview Outline Plan, allowing Sifton Park’s subdivision plans to move forward.
Most residential development in Sifton Park took place before 1977, driven by Edmonton’s oil boom. The neighbourhood features a mix of housing, with its educational and recreational facilities centrally located. Pathways throughout the area encourage pedestrian and bicycle travel, while select roads are designated for Edmonton Transit buses. The neighbourhood also benefits from its proximity to a Light Rail Transit (LRT) terminal just north of 137 Avenue. Sifton Park was named after Arthur R. Sifton, Alberta’s Premier from 1910 to 1917, who later participated in the Paris Peace Conference as a member of the federal Union government.
