Sweet Grass is a residential neighbourhood situated in south-central Edmonton. It’s bordered by 34 Avenue to the north, 111 Street to the east, a greenbelt utility corridor to the south, and 119 Street to the west. Although the area became part of Edmonton in 1964, significant residential development didn’t begin until the 1970s. Most homes in Sweet Grass are single-family houses, but the community also includes a mix of townhomes and apartment buildings, providing a range of housing options.
The heart of the neighbourhood features an elementary school surrounded by green space, offering residents access to outdoor recreation and community events. While there are no commercial developments directly within Sweet Grass, convenient shopping and services are just a short distance away along 111 Street and at Southgate Centre. Residents also benefit from proximity to the Century Park LRT station, making it easier to commute or explore the city. The neighbourhood is named after Chief Sweet Grass, a respected Cree leader known for his early efforts in wildlife conservation.
