Villeneuve is a quiet hamlet in Sturgeon County, located just 10 km northwest of Edmonton’s city limits along Highway 44. With its small-community charm and proximity to the city, Villeneuve offers a peaceful lifestyle while keeping residents close to urban conveniences.
The hamlet is best known for the Edmonton/Villeneuve Airport (ZVL), which opened in 1976 as a Transport Canada flight training facility. Following the closure of Edmonton’s City Centre Airport in 2013, Villeneuve Airport expanded with upgraded runways, new hangars, and improved facilities, making it an important aviation hub for the region. The airport also serves as an alternate landing site for medevac flights during stormy weather and hosts events like air shows and flight training programs.
Villeneuve is small in size but rich in history and community spirit. It has seen steady growth and offers residents a balance between country living and quick access to Edmonton, St. Albert, and Sturgeon County’s other communities.
